European Conference on Floods, 17/18 May 2006, Vienna/Austria
This conference was hosted by the Austrian Presidency of the European Union and have been organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management in cooperation with the European Commission, DG ENV.
The purpose of the European Conference on Flood Risk Management was to raise awareness of the risk of floods taking into account the challenges resulting from climate change. The Conference provided an overview of flood-strategies in different river basins and countries and outlined the need of proper risk management based on experiences of recent floods. The Conference aimed to give an overview of the current state of play of the European response to the challenge of floods. Particular attention was given to the European Commission’s Flood Action Programme and its legislative proposal.
