Water Year - Figures

Also expressed in figures, the 2003 Water Year in Austria yielded impressive results: a study showed that 55 percent of the Austrian population had heard about the Water Year – an excellent result for a campaign scheduled for just one year.

Austria-Wide Survey
Based on 813 telephone interviews being representative for the Austrian population from an age of 15, a survey conducted by the Linz-based Market Institut, a market-research company, found out that 55 % of the Austrian population had already heard about the 2003 Water Year. Uncontested champions among the Federal provinces were Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg with 65 %, followed closely by Styria and Carinthia with 64%, respectively. As to the campaign’s contents, the main concern of the Austrian population is safe water supply and water quality, deemed “very important “ by 96 % of the population, followed by the preservation of groundwater as drinking water and the protection of Austrian lakes, streams and rivers from pollution. According to the survey, the Austrian population feels that the municipalities, with a rate of 81 %, are most active when it comes to improving water quality.
