Fauna Aquatica Austriaca – 2nd edition
The standardisation of the ecological, in particular the saprobial classifications for the macrozoobenthos by the “Fauna Aquatica Austriaca” (MOOG (ED.)1995) constitutes the basic prerequisite for the comparability of findings and for quality assurance measures within the framework of the national quality monitoring of running waters.
This catalogue, which is applicable all over Austria, was already supplemented and updated in 2002. The two editions (as of 1995, as of 2002) are no being integrated and are available in German and in English. At the same time the Fauna Aquatica Austriaca was supplemented by a revised edition in 2003.The Fauna Aquatica Austriaca contains the well-known inventory of species of the aquatic fauna in Austria and provides a collection of data on ecological information about aquatic organisms (saprobial indices, allocation to foraging type, and longitudinal distribution within the “biocoenotic regions”).
With a total of 292 ciliates and 2912 invertebrate species more than 900 species have been newly included in the catalogue in the second edition and in the revised edition 2003.
