Even though Austria is one of the water-richest countries of the earth measures to preserve or to restore the water quality are still needed. The federal government makes available funds for municipal water supply as well as for municipal and operational wastewater disposal in Austria.

Research funding
For funding research into and development of new technologies and techniques in residential-area water management, an annual budget of EUR 1.454 mn is available (§21 Environmental Support Act 1993, as amended).
